Pontiac, Illinois

A small-town region with strong connection to big things

Prime-time living in Livingston County

More than three dozen farming communities and townships make up Livingston County, and Pontiac is the county seat.

U.S. Route 66, the original Mother Road, still runs through the heart of Pontiac, and the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum is located here. But the town also has stretched out to take economic and transportation advantage of Interstate 55, the busy highway that connects Chicago and St. Louis. Pontiac is a 30-minute drive from the college haven of Bloomington-Normal, an hour from Peoria and two hours from Chicago.

With 11,000 residents, Pontiac lines the banks of the Vermilion River, which is a magnet for fishing, swimming, kayaking and the like. Outdoors lovers will also find plenty of places to hike, bicycle or camp in hardwood forests or restored prairie lands.
